DOHENY NOTES - (Number of times read: 838)

PRO | Tuesday 7 May 2013

A long life devoted to family, medicine, the GAA, travel and all things Irish, was celebrated in Dunmanway last Friday as Dr. Michael Herlihy was laid to rest with the same dignity and respect he had shown to the people and the town he loved so much since he moved here back in the 60s.
There was a huge attendance at his rosary, removal and funeral as townspeople and friends said a sad final farewell following the death of someone whose passing could indeed be categorised as “the end of an era”. He had battled bravely with ill health in the past year or so and finally succumbed on Tuesday 30th of April, peacefully, and in the loving comfort of his family.
The Doc as he was affectionately known can only be described as a true gentleman. He had a great passion for life, travel and all sports in particular hurling & football.  He has given the Doheny GAA Club a huge service over the past 50 years, as team doctor, chairman and most recently Club President.  The Club will be forever indebted to the Doc and the Herlihy family.  Our deepest sympathies to the Herlihy Family.
