Comments: Well Sam had a discussion in the arch wan night with fellow Dohenys as to who is this Sam  bloke  on the Doheny website and we came to the conclusion that you are around the 32 to 40 age mark but now i have my doubts as all of your nicknames are between 22 and 30 so i reckon you might be under the 30 mark? At least tell us was Mick Sullivan your headmaster in sixth class!!!304732

Comments: Enjoyed Jaws' account of his achievements. Nice to see him use his nickname. In many places nicknames can be used in a derogatory manner but in Dunmanway they seem to be like a badge of honour or a mark of distinction. The following are well used terms of affection --  Tomato, Burgers, Satchi, Bonny, Kellogs, The Head, Pig, Figs, Ear, Hector, Kember, Roundy, Daf,Dino, Sammy, Whiskey, Bubbles, Gums, Abb, Skellig, Tart, Cagey Fada, Mousey, Spanner. Are there any more? Perhaps some of the older members have some from the past.

Comments: Well i knew it wouldnt take long to get conor going, just be careful who you call a ''has been'' id like to inform you that even though the boots are hung up, they do come down once a year for the junior 4,i reckon a fella could prolong the career for ages at this grade just look at brian and barry or even gally! As for my achievements you can never take the long kick away from me, that was won fair and square, although mawser will never let me forget that we failed to invite him along on the nite.
It was also interesting to hear about the purple jerseys, was that just the goalies one or did the whole team wear them?i myself remember playing in yellow jerseys (against Douglas)and also in white jerseys with a green hoop, was there any more deviation from the famed green and white?surely the likes of Barry Collins or the more ''mature'' members of the club would know.Well done to Jerry o Mahony who did a great St. Patrick on friday.

The list of people posting on this site reads like a list "has been's" of doheny
football...only joking...
Like Jaws has done, can Tim Buckley produce his own list of accolades from his playing days in
the green jersey? And, No Tim you can't count the 'Longest drop kick' award you won at training
one night...which by the way we let you win because you were the new boy.

Of course Tim has his own managerial career at the moment. Are you teaching your latest team of upstarts the techniques and benefits of the drop kick? I'm sure you are. Although it must be difficult in the current playing conditions.

Great to see rayme being able to remember the many great feats of the man called ''jaws'' perhaps he should be included in the coaching course being run at the moment,im sure jaws could teach us all a thing or two,why is conor collins staying so quiet?i know he prefers to do his talking inside the wire, but surely he has an opinion on a few of the items discussed recently?

Comments: I have to verify Jaws' claims to glory in the green (and purple) jerseys but I am disappointed that he seems to have forgotten his greatest claim to fame. It was in the final of the under 16 grade 'c'  hurling championship in which Sam Maguires took on Pedlars Cross on the October Bankholiday weekend in the year 1988. Standing between the posts was the one and only Jaws. He was in inspired form. He hurled high and hurled low to such an extent that not only did he keep his goal intact but he also prevented his unfortunate opponents from scoring even a point the final score being 7 - 5 to 0 - 0. What a performance! What a goalie! Such happenings are what legends are made of. Oh where did it all go wrong afterwards!
Also turning in a five star performance that day was Cathal Crowley who had FOUR goals to his credit. For the record the team consisted of:
Kevin Crowley, Chris O' Donovan, Paddy Hayes, Neil Collins, Derry O' Mahony, John Collins, Cathal Kelleher, John Galvin, Sean Holland, Cathal Crowley, Tony Walsh, Elton, Lehane, John Lynch, John Hayden, Aiden Hayes.
The team was trained by Charlie Mc Carthy.

I would like to thank my former teammate on his kind words about my recent lotto win. I However take exception to his comment that i won nothing with the Dohenys/Sam Maguires during my not so illustrious career. The following are some of the medals that i remember winning.
3 no U12 Parish League (2 in the purple jerseys)
U14B Football league (Until we got thrown out for having an overage player)Who registered him???
U16A West Cork Football Championship 1988
U18B West Cork Hurling Championship 1990.
I retired then on medical grounds. The Doc diagnosed a weak kickout and said the condition had actually got worse since he first watched me in action at u12 level. Pity he did not hand out the same advice to his son Barry about his shooting.

Comments: In browsing through the web I came across the dunmanway.net website compiled by Dunmanway Promotions. It contains a wealth of information and its This Week news section should be of great interest to people abroad. It would enhance the Doheny website if added as a Web Link.
The site contains much information on services, businesses and activities in the town. A glaring flaw in it ,however, is that it contains no mention of the Dohenys Club nor of Ballabuidhe. How could you describe Dunmanway without referring to either of these, both probably the oldest organisations in town. Everything happens before Ballabuidhe, after Ballabuidhe or during Ballabuidhe. The town is often referred to as the Doheny town and people from the town are frequently called Dohenys even if not connected to the G.A.A. One of the most common topics discussed by locals in pubs and elsewhere, along with the weather and who has run off with whose wife , is how the Dohenys are doing.
Perhaps the compiler of the otherwise excellent Promotions site has never heard of Ballabuidhe or the Dohenys. I trust that the club will enlighten them on the latter and James Connolly will do so on the former.
Again make sure you add the site to your web link

Here we go again, before a ball is kicked in the 2006 Kelleher Sheild one prominent club has already got a postponment. The reason for this postponment is that their club dinner is on the night before. Surely they knew 2 months ago that this dinner was on. It would be excuseable if it was a small club with a small number of players, but this club can boast of 30 to 40 players fit for senior football. The Kelleher Sheild is again being treated with distain by the clubs and by the co-ordinator, Mr Ryan who allowed this to happen. The County Board should now act and stop this ridiculous treatment of the Kelleher Sheild immediately.
