Comments: | Rory O'Sullivan, Argideen Rangers, who recently captained Clon
Community College in their Voc School's Senior A football final success
is grandson of the late Brendan O'Sullivan, Main Street, and his wife
Joan O'Driscoll, Bantry Road, who now resides in Prospect Mews. Rory,
who won the man of the match award in the final has also represented
Cork at U-18 and U-21 levels, and is a nephew of Ronan O'Sullivan who
was an outstanding Doheny wing back before going to Australia.

Comments: | Congratulations to former Sam Maguire and Doheny footballer Stephen
O'Donovan who rode his first winner as an English based jockey. Stephen
was aboard Chico Time in the Easer Monday meeting at Plumpton and anyone
who had a bet did extremely well as the horse romped home by a length,
at odds of 8 to 1. Here's hoping Stephen continues on his upward curve
in one of the hardest jobs of all.

I stopped by this morning to see the Junior Hurlers take on Colums, despite the team having 13 or so players, I was pleased with the performance. The team are capable of getting far. There were very good hurlers on display too. I also found it hard to believe that the younger players like the O'Sullivans up forward are still Under 21 this year and that the veteran players like clement,ab and gums are still keeping the hurling side alive as ever. All the best for the future lads! |

Comments: | The Doheny Junior Hurlers are playing St Colums at 12pm tomorrow Sunday in Dunmanway in the Junior A Hurling League. The Club are hosting the Senior Football Championship Fixture between Beara & Muskery this Monday the 5th at 3.30pm. If anyone wants to lend a hand stewarding etc. please be at the Club grounds for 2pm. It would be very much appreciated. Congrats to the Minor footballers who beat Kinsale in the Premier Minor Championship last Thursday evening in Enniskeane. The best of luck to Dunmanway Rugby Club and Dunmanway Town Ladies who are playing in their respective finals tomorrow. Happy Easter!!

Next Monday night sees the start of the under 12 football leagues. We have two teams in action on the night. The under 12s are at home to Newcestown in Sam Maguire park at 7pm and the under 11s are away to Ardfield at 6.45 in the third section of the under 12 leagues. As we have 40 boys in the under 12 age group parental support and indeed support from all club members would be appreciated. The under 11s are also in action on this saturday when they travel to Blackrock to play St Michaels in the Seandun League. |

With no disrespect to anyone and I say that genuinely as I have signed my name to this post - It's very disappointing when you login to the guestbook here lately. You expect to read about fixtures, results, match reports, best wishes, and positive suggestions for the club and instead you see posts that do absolutely nothing for the progression of the club. There are many people who have valid contributions to make, could we please try and make an effort to submit comments on the website that are in the best interests of our club. I will start by drawing your attention to the Lee Flag Initiative 2010: The Lee Flag club awards scheme was launched in Pairc Ui Rinn recently by Coaching Officer Denis Keohane. This is a new initiative that will form part of the Cork GAA Strategic Plan and is being backed by Coiste Oiliuna Chorcai. The premise behind the initiative is to point club activities towards coaching and games development best practice both on and off the field. The Lee Flag Programme for 2010 is a new club awards scheme, under the auspicious of Cork GAA Games Development, the aim of which is to promote best practice in coaching and games development at club level. It is hoped that all clubs will strive to meet the 15 targets indentified as key factors in terms of promoting our games amongst our child and youth players. A fund of €20,000 will be available annually for distribution among clubs who reach each of the targets before December 1st of this year. Of course, the magnificent work already carried out at club level in a wide range of other areas in terms of coaching and providing a programme of games is recognised. However, the criteria included provide a useful range of goals to ensure the further embellishment of such work. More details can be found by clicking on this link: |
