ST. PATRICKS N.S. SCIATH NA SCOL CHAMPIONSSENIOR FOOTBALL
Sunday next is make or break day for the senior footballers when they take on Mallow in Carrigadrohid in a second round championship game with the winners going into the third round and the losers going into a play – off relegation battle along with Bishopstown, Bantry and the losers of the Ballincollig versus Nicks game. Dohenys lost to Ballyvourney in the opening round whereas Mallow went under to Castlehaven in a keenly fought contest. The team will probably contain some changes as Denis Healy, who was on his honeymoon for the first game, and Paul Deane who came on as a sub, are likely to be in the starting 15. Nothing short of a 100 per cent effort by all the players allied with discipline and commitment will suffice if victory is to be attained.
SCHOOL SHIELDS
Well done to St. Patrick’s on winning the final of the ‘A’ grade at the Sciath na Scol finals in Dunmanway on Thursday. The team looked to be in trouble at halftime when they trailed by 5 points against a stronger Skibbereen side. However, they turned in a mighty second half to wipe out the deficit and go on to win comfortably by nine points.
UNDER 12 FOOTBALL
The u12 footballers made their exit from the championship on Sunday evening last when they were defeated by Aghada in the county semi-final in Ballinora. Despite the wet conditions both teams served up an exciting hour’s football. Maguires started brightly scoring the first three points but two goals by Aghada just before half time left the Dunmanway lads trailing by 3 points, 2-1 to 0-4, at the break. With the wind to their backs Aghada got off to a great start to the second half with two points to put them into a commanding lead. Undaunted,Maguires fought back to cut the deficit to three points. However, a quick break by Aghada added another goal to their tally and opened a 6 point lead with just 10 minutes left. Where many a team would have folded this Maguires showed true grit. Sustained pressure won them a penalty which Liam Rice expertly converted. They continued to press for the equalising scores but time ran out leaving the East Cork side ahead by 2 points, 3-3 to 1-7.Inevitably the players were devasted at the end but they can take great satisfaction from what they have achieved, the fine football they played throughout the campaign and the entertainment they provided their supporters with. There are many fine footballers on the team and a lot more will be heard of them in the years to come.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL
The junior footballers were at home to Newcestown in the league on Monday evening and produced a rather indifferent display. The visitors had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half and led by a point, 1-2 to 0-4 at the break with Brendan Lehane (2), Cathal Crowley, and Stephen Collins getting the points. Although Alan Sheehan levelled matters straight after the break it was Newcestown who took the initiative kicking 1-1, the goal from a penalty. Dohenys scored five points on the trot from Declan Dwyer (2), Cathal Crowley, Noel Collins and Stephen Collins to go into the lead but the visitors had the last point to leave the sides level at the final whistle.

Although they trailed by 5 points early in the second half they stepped up a gear for the remainder of the game to clinch victory on a score of 4-8 o 2-7. The comeback was due in no small measure to the goal scoring prowess of John Healy who scored a goal in the first half and added a brace in the second half to complete his hat trick.
