Some fine action from the U12 Hurling Game V Clon

SENIOR FOOTBALL
The senior footballers are still up in the air with regard to a date for their championship replay with Na Piarsaigh. They would have been playing last Tuesday if Cork had lost. Cork won so the game went back to next Tuesday. But if Cork defeat Galway on Saturday the game will again be postponed with no date down for it. How can a team be prepared mentally and physically when the goalposts keep changing. It is surely not fair to selectors  or players. Can one imagine the fuss that would be kicked up if the Cork senior footballers next championship fixture was handled in such a manner!

JUNIOR  FOOTBALL
The junior footballers made a disappointing exit from the championship when they were comprehensively defeated by St. Marys in Ballinacarriga on Friday evening last. While the team was much understrength  it was still a very sub-standard performance with little pressure being put on Marys at any stage of the game.

MINOR  FOOTBALL
After a long break the minor footballers resumed playing activities on Wednesday evening with a home league game against Newcestown. The game produced an excellent display of football with little between the sides throughout  which gave a competitive edge to the game. Despite some good points from Brian Mc Carthy, Brian O’ Sullivan and James Collins it was the visitors who led at halftime thanks to a converted penalty coming up to the break.  Maguires, however, had a slight edge in the second half with James Collins kicking three excellent points, Clinton  Sweetnam  kicking two, and Brian Mc Carthy and Tom Collins having one apiece.  Despite this they could never shake off the Newcestown challenge and with only a kick of a ball between the the sides at any stage the result remained in doubt up to the final whistle. The final score was Maguires 0-14, Newcestown      1 – 8. In addition to those mentioned there were impressive displays from Daniel Mc Sweeney at wingback and Declan Coughlan at corner forward.
TEAM: Cathal O’ Sullivan, Michael O’ Leary, David Collins, Conor Doyle, Daniel Mc Sweeney, Tom Collins, Patrick Lynch, James Collins, Brian Mc Carthy, brian O’ Sullivan, Clint Sweetnam, john healy, Jeremy Moloney, James Deane, Declan Coughlan.

UNDER 12 HURLING
The under 12 hurlers have had a busy few weeks playing five games in the league.  They  defeated Skibbereen and Kilmichael at home as well as Clondrohid and Bantry away. Their fifth game was against Clonakilty on Monday evening in Dunmanway. With both sides unbeaten to date this promised to be an exciting game and indeed it did not disappoint. From start to finish some fine hurling was played with marvellous scores being recorded. Not unexpectedly there was nothing between the sides with the scores tied with just five minutes to go. However, Clon finished the stronger notching a goal and a point to give them victory on a score of 4 – 14 to 5 -7. The team’s next game will be away to Kilmeen on Monday evening, July 21st.
TEAM: John Kelly, Daragh Mc Carthy, Tom Murphy, Mark Buckley, Kevin Dullea, Jamie Carroll, Liam Rice, Owen lavers, Kevin O’ Mahony, Ray Jennings, Dylan O’ Driscoll, Sean Daly, Adrian Cronin.
Subs: Michael Kearney, Evan Twomey, Owen Murray, Martin Murphy, Callum Bowkett, Tomas White, James O’ Neill, Jack Mc Givern, Mark Mc Carthy, Padraig Crowley.
