Playing Activities

It’s all systems go in the Doheny GAA Club over the last week.  The senior footballers and the junior hurlers played a number of challenge games in preparation of their respective championships.  The senior footballers hosted Carbery Division and the junior hurlers played Kilbrittain and Uibh Laoire.  The senior footballers lost on a score-line of 1-11 to 3-11.  The junior hurlers were successful on their two outings, defeating Kilbrittain 1-21 to 11 points and Uibh Laoire 2-13 to 0-09.  Obviously it’ll take a number of weeks to blow out the cobwebs but the desire is there amongst players and management in both codes to make progress in this year’s condense playing season.  Games and training sessions are coming thick and fast.  The Doheny Junior footballers are fixed to play Clann naGael in the championship on July 26th at 7pm in Rossmore.  The senior footballers will out be the same weekend against Fermoy in the opening round of the senior A championship.  The Juniors hurlers are down to play Ballinscarthy in the Junior A Hurling Championship in Enniskeane at 3.30pm on August 2nd .

Mayor’s Recognition

The Doheny GAA Club received recognition from the Mayor of the County of Cork for our voluntary services to the people of Dunmanway community and beyond during the Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis..  The Club was thanked for our work, kindness and contribution to the wellbeing of the county’s citizens during this difficult time.

Cork Clubs’ Draw Winner

Sean McCarthy of Park Lawn, Dunmanway scooped 1st prize of €20,000 in the March draw of the Cork Clubs’ Draw.  This is the 2nd time in recent years that a member of the Doheny GAA Club has won the 1st prize in the County Board Draw.  Everyone is delighted for Sean, in particular his two sons Jerry and Pa who no doubt will help him spend it.

Lotto

The Club lotto will resume this Monday July 13th.  The Jackpot stands at €2,400.  The Doheny lotto tickets can be purchased through the usual ticket sellers i.e. Jerry O’Mahony & Paul Murray etc or in the following premises Supervalu, D Oil, Parkview Stores (Gordons), Dunmanway Launderette & Connolly’s Shoe Shop.  We’d encourage everyone to support the lotto. Like a lot of other organizations the Doheny GAA Club wasn’t immune to the impacts of Covid 19.  Loans and bills still have to be paid and the postponement of the lotto for the past 4 months has had a significant negative impact on the finances of the Club.
