DOHENY GAA NOTES - (Number of times read: 900)
PRO | Monday 28 January 2019
The “Doheny Dinner Dance” was a
great success with over 200 people in attendance. The new format of
the dinner dance is proving to be a winner with everyone having
another enjoyable night. This year’s social celebrated the successes of
the Doheny Ladies winning the Junior West Cork Championship & the
Doheny U21 B Hurlers winning the West Cork Hurling Championship. The 1993 County Junior football & 1995
Intermediate football championship winning teams were also honoured on the night.
It was fantastic to see all the Doheny legends of the mid 90s in
attendance. A special mention must go to
Aidan O’Rourke who came all the way from San Francisco for the reunion.
As usual there was huge
interest in the Player of the Year Award. The Denis Crowley Perpetual
Trophy went to Eoin Lavers. Eoin had a fine year in both codes for the
Club. He was rock solid in defence for both the senior footballers & the junior
hurlers. The Club-person of the Year Award went to Mark Farr. Mark is a very hard grafter for the Club;
ever present for stewarding at matches, lining the pitches and involved coaching
a number of teams at younger age & adult level. Cathriona Maloney won the Doheny Ladies
Player of the Year award and Donna Hayes got the most improved player of the
year accolade.
A presentation was made
on the night to Sinead O’Sullivan the wife of the late Tony “The Kerryman” to
mark his tragic passing during 2018 and the contribution he had made to the
club. Presentations also were made to Jerry O’Mahony & Paul Murray
who stepped down as Chairman and Secretary of the Club respectively at the
recent AGM.
As usual an excellent
meal was provided by the Parkway Hotel. Dura Ceoil and The Music Makers
provided the music which was lively & energetic & a very pleasant night
was had by all!
