The Junior A footballers continued their winning start to
the league with another comprehensive win over Urhan on a score-line of 3-07 to
1-08 in Sam Maguire Park on Friday night last. The father and son
combination of David Mawe and his son Nathan O’Donovan were devastating for the
Dohenys in attack, scoring a total of 2-07 between them.
Dohenys did all their scoring in the first half & in truth the game was
over as a contest at half time. The Dunmanway side led at the interval on
a score-line of 3-07 to 0-04 with wing forward Aidan O’Donovan netting the
other Doheny goal. Credit to Urhan they pressed hard in the 2nd
half to reduce the deficit somewhat but the home side ran out comfortable
winners in the end.

The senior footballers registered their first league win of
the season with a hard fought away win to Castletownbere in atrocious weather
conditions in Cahermore on Sunday evening last. This wasn’t a game for
the faint hearted and the young Dohenys side showed their metal to run out 4
point winners on a score-line of 1-10 to 1-06. The impressive Fionn
Herlihy got the Dohenys goal early in the game. Dohenys led at half time
1-05 to 1-02. It was a battle of attrition in the second half but
Mark Buckley was in form from play and placed balls & he kept the scoring
ticking over for the men in green. Eoin Murray, Declan Collins &
Padraig O’Mahony excelled again for the second week running & their notable
performances drove the team on to success. Declan O’Dwyer kicked an
absolute beauty of a point to cap a memorable win for the Dohenys men with the
final kick of the game. The seniors are on the road again this Sunday,
away to Bantry at 2.30pm in Wolfe Tone Park.
