Playing activities:
The Junior A footballers maintained their winning start to
the 2018 season with another win over a strong O’Donovan Rossa side. The home-side won out 1-09 to 0-10 point
victors. The Doheny Juniors have 3 wins from 3 games
played & are sitting on top of Division 2 of the Carbery/Beara league. Overall it was a strong team performance from
the Dohenys but there was a number of noteworthy performances. David O’Farrell & Tadhg O’Leary impressed in
the backline & on the other side of the pitch Patrick McCarthy & David
Mawe excelled in the forward line for the Dunmanway side. A mere
point separated the sides at half time with Dohenys leading 6 points to 5
points. The all important score of the
game came from the boot of David Mawe when he coolly dispatched his penalty
into the Skibb net after the hard working Johnny Kelly had been upended in the
large rectangle. Dohenys held out in defence
to run out deserved winners in the end.

The U21A
footballers were defeated by Canovee on a score-line of 0-13 to 2-10 in a
challenge game last Sunday morning in Sam Maguire Park. It was a good test for the reigning West Cork
Champions. Although the Dohenys were missing
a number of key players it was a good eye opener for the home side, as it
showed the level that the U21 side is currently at and where they need to be if
they want to mount a credible defence of their title this year.
