U8 & U10 Parish leagues
The U8 and U10 football Parish Leagues took place on Sunday
last in a sunny Sam Maguire Park .
The four under 8 teams along with the four under 10 teams
paraded out to the Sunday game theme tune and put on a great display of
football for the large attendance . The fare on display was a credit to the
coaches and parents who have helped out all year special mention to Philip
Kelleher and Tony Walsh who bring the whole thing together . The event ran off
very smoothly and enjoyed by both players and parents alike.
Sam Maguire’s 3-7 Bantry 0-6
The Sam Maguire Minors topped off a very successful campaign
when they claimed the County Minor A football title in Aughaville on Sunday
last. There was a definite sense of Déja Vu as the opposition, venue, weather
and even the referee mirrored the West Cork final played in September.
Thankfully for our lads the result was also the same.
After a slow opening where Bantry took the early initiative
with 2 early points, a well taken Kieran Forbes goal sparked Sam’s into life
and from there they never looked back. A peach of a second goal from Rhys
Coakley after an impressive solo run put Sam’s in control helping them to a
commanding half time lead of 2-4 to 0-3.
A determined Bantry huffed and puffed but some stern
defensive play by Sam Maguire’s kept them at bay in the second half and a Fionn
Herlihy penalty right on the full time whistle put the icing on the cake. A
great achievement for all involved completing a West Cork and County double
with the chance of league honours still a possibility also. Photos are available on photo gallery.
