Minor Football
After winning the toss for home advantage Sam Maguires
played St. Michaels in the Premier 1 championship on Thursday night last in
floodlit Sam Maguire Park. A ding dong battle ensued with a first half goal
from Fionn Herlihy proving to be the difference between the sides at the short
whistle HT score :Sam Maguires 1-4 to St Michaels 0-4.
The 2nd half was again hard fought with a second
Fionn Herlihy major putting Sams narrowly ahead going into the closing stages.
A well taken Kieran Forbes goal following a great team move with 5 minutes to
go ensured the home side kept their noses in front the final score was Sam
Maguires 3-5 St Michaels 0-9. Sams now await the winners of the
Douglas v Rosscarbery game.
The second Minor team lost out to Newcestown in the Minor B1
league encounter on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-3.
Thanks to all who participated in the annual fundraiser,
the Table Quiz in The Southern Bar on Thursday night also a special word of
thanks to quizmaster Brian Collins and to all who sponsored raffle prizes etc
on the night.
