Minor Hurling
Sam Maguires 2-12 Eire
Og 2-10
When Eire Og raced into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead after just 10
minutes of this Premier 2A minor hurling cship clash the signs looked ominous
for the Dunmanway lads.
However resilience is a quality this team has in spades and
true to form they did not lie down. Points from Eoin and Nathan O'Donovan help
settle the boys in green and they went in at half time trailing by four points
on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-6.
A blistering start to the second half from Sams yielded 2-5
in total. A Fionn Herlihy penalty followed quickly by a long range Kieran
Forbes free that caught Eire Og out and went all the way to the back of
the net left Sams ahead 2-11 to 1-7 with 15 mins of the second half played. Eire
Og fought back and a goal in the 53rd minute left Sams hanging on by the
bare minimum heading into injury time before Eoin Murray added a point to see
Sam Maguires home by two points at the full time whistle.
Great credit to all involved as the team were without some
vital personnel for this clash which makes the win all the more
commendable. They now advance to play Fr O'Neills in the next round which promises
to be another tough assignment.
