Sam Maguire’s U16’s scored an impressive championship
victory over Ilen Rovers on Tuesday last. The foundations were laid in the 1st
half when a brace of Gavin Farr goals turned the tide in Sam’s favour. The 1st
was a penalty with Gavin getting fouled and converting himself. He followed
this up straight afterwards with another goal following good work from Sean
Daly. Ilen finished the first half strongly to reduce the half time deficit to
2 points. Half time score 2-07 to 1-08.
It was tight enough at the start of the 2nd half but Gavin
netted his 3rd goal which broke Ilen Rovers hearts and from there the boys in
green kicked on with the result never in doubt. Sean Daly added a 4th goal for
good measure.
Sean Calnan was his usual dependable self in goal. Josh
Burke was the pick of the backs. Aaron Mannix was impressive at midfield.
Piaris Hayes, Padraig O'Sullivan and Gavin Farr shone up front with Shane Barry
impressing off the bench.
Final score 4-18 to 1-09.
