Sam Maguire’s 1-6 Bantry Blues 6-10
The U12A football cup final took place in Drimoleague on
Sunday last . Sam Maguire’s played with the strong breeze in the opening half
however it was Bantry who were quicker out of the traps and had 1-2 on the
board before Shane Barry opened Sam’s account with a well taken free after 11
minutes. This seemed to settle the boys in green and a Matthew Crowley point followed
by a well taken goal by Sean Murphy had them on level terms after 15minutes.
Indeed things could have been even better if a square goal had not been
disallowed during that period. Another Shane Barry free quickly followed
by a Jack McSweeney point had Sam’s two ahead before Bantry struck for their
second goal . Shane Barry had the last score for Sam Maguire’s on the stroke of
half time to leave them one point behind at the short whistle Sam Maguires
1-5 Bantry 2-3
The 2nd half couldn’t have started worse as
Bantry won the throw in and manufactured a goal out of nothing. Unfortunately
this score left the Dunmanway lads deflated and despite the heroics of
outstanding goal keeper Thomas Kingston Bantry ran out easy winners. It was a
disappointing end to what has been a very successful season with the League
title already won earlier in the year. All in all a lot of credit must go to
the young lads and especially to their mentors who have done some great work
throughout the year with this group.
