PRO | Monday 20 August 2018
The Sam Maguire U16 hurlers were crowned U16 B1 West Cork
Hurling Champions on Thursday evening last after comprehensively beating Cill
Mochomog (Bantry/St Collums) on a score-line of 2-17 to 4 points. Sams
dominated the final from the throw in. Sams had 1-08 on the scoreboard
before Cill Mochomog registered their opening score of the game on the stroke
of the half time whistle. Jerry Collins 0-04 and Sean Daly 1-04 shared
the scoring between them in the opening half for Sam Maguires. The
half time scoreline read Sam Maguires 1-08 to Cill Mochomog 0-01.
Cill Mochomog started brighter in the 2nd half
but they couldn’t withstand the overall dominance of the Dunmanway side.
It was a great team performance by Sam Maguires with a number of standout
performers in man of the match Sean Daly & Jerry Collins. Centre
forward Alan Brickley tagged in with 4 points of his own. Barry
O’Sullivan, Dan Dullea, Padraig Duggan and Con O’Sullivan were rock solid at
the back. Peter Collins & Cal Nyhan worked tirelessly around the middle
third. Aidan McCarthy, after being sprung from the bench, registered a
major, as Sam Maguires ran out deserved winners in the end. Sam Maguire
Captain Jerry Collins graciously excepted the cup from Aidan O’Rourke.
The only sour note of the evening is that Darragh Kelly sustained a fractured
collar bone and the club wish him a speedy recovery.

Record
Numbers Attend Doheny/Sam Maguire Cul Camp
Doheny/Sam
Maguire Cul camp ran from 13th to the 17th of August catering for a record 270
enthusiastic and energetic children. Overall the weather was
accommodating however the rain came on Wednesday but this did not deter our
young athletes and coaches. We were extremely privileged to have Cork
Senior players such as our own Mellissa Duggan, Luke Meade and Chris O'Leary coaching
during the week. A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches and helpers
who no doubt inspired all the children. To facilitate the children's
skill development and love of the game Cork Star Ruairí Deane presented a
football to each and every child on Friday. All these footballs were kindly
sponsored by Andrew Healy and Super Valu Dunmanway. A great gesture to end a
great week.
