Just a quick one to say how the board and certain clubs seem to have more power then other as they can have games canceled with very short notice and then we see the under 21 hurlers the minor hurling and i believe the under 16s team in the club all playing championship on the same week. We as selectors and trainers try and prepare teams as best as possible only to have matches switched from one day & week to another and then ask to play them all together in the one week, its seems the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing no wonder we lose players and selectors become disillusioned within our organisation. |

Nook, Iwould like to agree with you especially on your comments as regards the reporting of Gleaming from the Gaels in the Southern Star who always tells the truth whether you like it or not.West Cork Soccer League was described as a mickey mouse competition in a recent Tv 3 interview.I would now ask the Question is the Cork County Senior Football Championship been treated the same way with the committment been given by some players with the same standards been set to win a County Senior Fotball Championship.Lets get our act together as the Doheny Club and promote the home of Sam Maguire the way it should be. |

Dude I reckon your reading too much of Tom Humphries and the Irish Times. Change your tact and concentrate more on Gleanings from the Gaels in the SS. I notice there's alot of Clon flags around the square and the town. Good luck to the Minor hurlers against Clon tommorrow night. Nook. |

There's pain with the latest Seniors shortcoming however alot of contributors are vocal so things can only get better.
Best now to have some sort of EGM and get the ball rolling for 2010. Some people suggested a meeting and I'm well on for it.

Interesting to read the comments about the state of football in the club. I have always loved the style of football all Doheny teams play and to say the club has been left behind in the changing face of football is grossly mistaken. Many teams would love to play the fast, open style that Dohenys do. There is absolutely nothing wrong that a few more scoring forwards wouldn't cure. One word of advice, maybe, keep Patrick and jerry nearer to the opposing goal, they can score, but spend too much time outfield working for possession. Remember too, had Paul Deane not been injured, Dohenys would now be in county semi-final, so no panic please. |

Comments: | Was watching the ulster final last Sunday Tyrone V Antrim and by the time the game was finished numbers 2, 5 and 7 had all scored from play for tyrone(mc minimum, davy harte and philip jordan). I suppose the point I'm trying to make is the nature of Gaelic football has changed over the last 6 or 7 years an one could argue that Dohenys have not evolved. The doheny's game is based around quick ball from midfield into a fast full forward line, however this tactic has been negated in recent times by teams using a sweeper system. Maybe its time to give this new ideologyl a go ? |

I am delighted to see the present day players joining in discussion about the merits of the team. It can only do good but it must be kept positive. I hope some more will join in. Denis is right to call for the team and management to meet in the near future. The momentum should be kept going as it will be very hard to pick it up again in six months time. What about the Kelleher Shield, it would be great to win this both for yourselves and the best supporters in the county. All it would take is some commitment and BELIEF in yourselves. In the last ten years ye have been in the top three or four teams in the county, I am sorry to say that ye have under achieved and that was not down to your ability, which ye had buckets of but to the lack of belief in yourselves. So come on lads a Kelleher Shield would be a great honour for the club. Keep up the positive discussion lads, it can only do good. I wonder where you are dude when the A.G.M. comes around, the club can do with all the help it can get. |

Good comments all round.. i would like to make one last point before we get our chance to air it all at Denis Lyons' meeting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! regarding our underage which takes in from u21 down Noel: I read recently that in killkenny, the so called bar in gaa, that they have a coaching manual, a blueprint for how they want their teams to play. this manual is given to all clubs for all ages and intercounty teams. and they work to this basic system, albeit change is unavoidable pending on tactics. i also found out that Nemo,Crossmaglen and many other top clubs have a similar set-up.. now i know this may be abit advanced for our club at the moment but i believe it is the way forward for our underage development. now i know we preach in Sam Maguire park that we want to play a fast brand of football, but how well are we teaching and preaching?? Finally on the senior team: it is hard to be critical of any management and easy to get the fangs out after a loss but i just feel we are reaching the end of a golden generation of players: When again will Dohenys, judging by whats comming up boast the playing talents of Paul Deane/Miheal O'Donovan/Micky Farr/Pat Collins/Ger Mac/Denis Healy/Pa Mac/Michael Milner all in the ONE team. It mightnt happen again in our lifetime and it is a shame we loose like the way we did this year and last year.. I think the honest Doheny would admit our play has been hearty yes but patchy since 06 and we havnt played well for 60 mins since the Haven in 07 and bar Nemo this year in a league game, i thought in general our play was poor at times and ponderous where there was no real link between backs and forwards..it was untypical of Doheny football..but again, it is easy to be critical as a footballer on the bank.. maybe we expect too much from our senior team.. Anyway, im looking forward to seeing if this develops further as the club and its supporters deserve to see silverware in some grade and fully agree and appreciate the comments so far.it starts here. |
