T'is all good - if nothing else a bit of a spark has been ignited on this forum however dirty laundry should not be aired in public, in my opinion.
Let's not live up to the saying of "United we stand, divided we fall' as discussions are going down that road at the moment. Everyone needs to take a deep breadth and go for a good........walk!
This year has slipped away and next year will bring new opportunities. We need to be ready for this.
Drama Queens, please be gone!

Comments: | Having read the recent comments i think it is a very positive and encouraging sign to see discussions of the this nature taking place as it shows that people are geuinely concerned. However, I feel a more suitable forum would be for all players and management of the 2009 senior panel to meet and discuss the year, which would allow all involved to voice their concerns. I am well aware that this has been suggested in the past but never materialised. I strongly feel that this should happen in the next week or two so that the initial stages of some feasible structure can be put in place for next year and beyond. I think we all are well aware that this team are at a crossroads but are still a hugely talented bunch of players who are not fullfilling their true potential. Though I am not suggesting that drastic measures are required there is certainly a need for a change of direction! |

the recent comments are a start for what is needed to make progress as a club but more is needed from senior players to help and encourage younger players so CLUB has bright future. Dohenys has a unique ability of producing naturally talented footballers but there talents are never fully used . We have plenty of talent in club and can achieve much more if more effort is made. players at all levels should be given equal chance no matter what age if your good enough your old enough . twins a perfect example. We have a number of good young players on senior squad who should be coached properly to fulfill there talent and hopefully we will reap rewards.Keep younger people interested and future is bright. |

You didnt offend me personally, it was primarily the use of the word 'disgrace' when referring to selectors discisions made by slectors, as a selector as underage level myself I dont think I would deserve such remarks being made on a forum about me no-matter what selection discisions were made. As for the Collins' twins I totally agree with you about them being more suited to backs than forwards but I've no doubt in a few years time we'll see them as a midfield partnership at this level, but I think at their age every championship game they get under their belt is going to develop them even if they are out of position, I myself have played senior championship at 4 different positions backs and forwards and I can honestly say that there has not been one championship game where I didnt learn something. When I commenting on the forwards I wasnt being specific about any one forward it was a general point of view and I wasnt condeming them to the trash can, my comments were what I see as a problem in their approach and attitude collectively and of course individuals vary, as for footballing talent I myself couldnt possably critisize them. Also I wasnt commenting on underage players I was on about young adult players and with these players there is a point where the patting on the back should be replaced with a kick up the backside. I agree totally with you about discussing the team but I just felt it was a bit of an attack but maybe I took you up wrong, obviously we both just want the club to progress and improve. |

Noel,
Apologies if i offended you.. looking back over my comment it seems abit misguided..when i speak of developing our youth i am in fact talking about the collins twins and the fact they were played as forwards when it is blaringly obvious they are more suited as defenders, therefore it being unfair to expect them to thrive in a heated championship environment and hinders their growth as senior footballers.. As for the other forward, i take that on board. i didnt personally see the jnr championship game but saw a few others where it must be stated the preparation was poor allied with poor ball into the inside line however your argument still holds strong..i can only gauge on the facts that were put before me when i saw the same player thrive in a forward line of pace and ACCURATE kick passing along with fighting for possesion against the best in the county which is a good sign and augers well for any player.. my question is, with the forward line misfiring bar one, is it not worth the risk??? this is our future or do we condemn such a young player to the thrash can already?? I also agree with your sentiments about the MAJORITY of our underage talent..if thats the correct word.. From word of mouth and by going to alot of the underage games in the last 3-4 years it seems the commitment is well shy and lacking.. you cant buy the interest but what precious little of it we have, we should be encouraging it as best we can, not disregarding it or misplacing it on the pitch..Feel free to comment back!!! the fans have a right to discuss the team Noel, be it on this guessbook or not. |

Noel, Burgers I would like to agree with your comments as regards not stating your true name on the wedsite, I have always but my full name on the website as former Runai of Cumann Na Dubhchonnaigh.I as selector with Dohenys in 2007 along with Gordan Salter and David Lordan who had the team as fit as it ever was which cost nothing financialy to the Doheny club compared to what it cost this year2009 because it suited people who have their own agenda in the club.Maybe it is time for the Doheny Club to recgonize people who have won Senior County football Medals at playing level which as selectors we had in 2007 instead of living in their own fantasy and give every player a even chance to play senior Senior Football with Dohenys. |

I dont think someone who throws about criticism on a public forum while hiding behind a sudaname deserves a responce but sure feck it.... Firstly no management team can develop any upcoming talent if they refuse to turn-up for training, I'd imangine that the average turnout for any training session would be about 15 to 16 throughout the year and the vast majority of the most committed of these players are the same old head that have been showing-up for the last decade or so, the general attitude of players coming through from underage is a far cry from those players in the past that have catapulated us to senior from junior and are still depended on. As for your 'forwards' complaint, this young talent were givin' a chance to impress against Mathuna's in junior championship yet we seemed to be relying again on a vetern to get our scores, if they cant perform in championship at that level I dont see them making much of an impact at senior. This is the reason the senior management have had to persevere with the tried and tested, granted the Collins' twins seem to be an exception to the rule but its a FACT that the majority of young players' priorities lie elsewhere and they dont have a clue what commitment is. This problem has been there for the last number of years and is going to take alot longer to rectify and connot be blamed on a management team that has been in the job six months, granted in HINDSIGHT some decisions could have been better. |

Few Comments: Disgrace the Collins twins were playing as forwards all year. The club are holding back the development of the youth by doing so. Brian McCarthy score 3 points aginst Nemo, score agianst Douglas and had a fine game v Newcestown. Why wasnt he used in the last 10 minutes when it was clear Ger Mac was burnt out from carrying the scoring threat. Huge question marks over the managment of this team and the failure to develope our youth. Btown were running our halkbackline ragged and no changes were made:untill the death when Collins was moved back.it took an 18yr old to sort the mess.. For too long this club has been standing back and admiring the whole thing. Even a blind man could see where problems were occuring, and where the problems truely are within this club??? I saw a young player (Keith Sheehan)being withdrawn after 10 minutes in a league game at the start of the year!!! Are we that strong of a squad.. where is the development?? |

Bubba in reply to you Dohenys are as good as any team in the County championship at Senior,Junior,Under 21,JunoirA Hurling Level. Let the club start developing other forwards to support Ger Mc Carthy. This has to be started at Under Age Level and devoloped all the way through. I would ask the Question how far away frere Dohenys from winning a southWestCork Under 21 A Championship if the Manager and the selectors at Under 21 Level got the support of all the players especially some of the players that were togged out for the senior Championship against Bishopstown. The Club should stop Concentrating at Senior Football Level at the expence the Club cannot afford and start spending this money at under Age level. I would ask the Question what was spent to win the County Junior A in 1993 and the Intermediate County in 1995. I would ask everybody involved in the Club to start developing the Club going forward instead of using the Club for there own benifit. |

Fresh off the press:
Dohenys 0-9 B'town 1-9
Doheny's can't really complain - without Ger Mac would have been a much wider margin. Weather didn't help the game......another year gone and maybe this is it for a while at this stage:(
Roll on the Junior footballers
