On behalf of the Lyons Family I would like to thank all those who helped dad in his final hours last night. He lived his life and died surrounded by his beloved dohenys, for this we must be thankful.

The Funeral arangements are as follows:

Removal from O'Niells funeral home to St Patricks Church at 7.30pm on Friday 13th.

Burial at 2.30pm on Saturday

Raymie we'll miss you.

Just want to wish Sean Rice and his team John Mitchels (the Docs old team) the very best of luck in their upcoming All-Ireland Final in Croke Park this Saturday night under lights.Â

It is fantastic to have one of our own playing in an All-Ireland Final, it doesn’t happen too often. Hopefully it wont be long before he’ll be back to don the green jersey and help the Doheny effort to advance to such a prestigious stage.

To all the good Gaa folk in west cork, or basically all those who can tell the difference between right and wrong, Tom 'Bomber' Roche has organised a march in support of the players that will take place on Saturday, February 7th at Emmet Place (outside Cork Opera House) from 3pm.  Anyone who has the best interest of cork GAA at hearth would be well advised to attend....

Comments: T'is all doom and gloom at the moment and people are talking themselves into an armageddon. Fair enough things are bad with the economy but could be worse - you could be a Cork hurling supporter - imagine their pain at the moment?

80's contant stream of immigration was stemmed by the Celtic Tiger but that stream may be gaining strength again in next couple of months/ years with the worsening economy. Dohenys loss will be Shannon Rangers (San Francisco), Irish Rovers (Sydney), Tir na nOg (Boston) gain with a new wave of young lads that were hard to come by for last 10 years or so. Hoping not too many have to board a plane for far away shores but if Ballineen's glut of vacant houses is anything to go by there won't be a need for a house for a long time to come......

I guess no where in Ireland in immune to the onslaught we are getting but at least Dohenys can look forward to the prospect of a County title in 2009.........

Comments: Hoping that 2009 is the year for the Dohenys as there's a fair depression with this recession.

Any words of retirement from any of last years squad?

Fairytale of New Cork

It was Christmas Eve, Frank
In the ice bath.
An old player said to me,
I won't see another one
And then he sang a song
Banks of My Lovely Lee
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Played in Fermoy, we won
I've got a feeling
This team's completely new
So happy Christmas
I love you Frankie
Promised me a better time
When all my dreams come true

"They've got cars big as bars
They've got medals of gold
But when Canning goes right through you
'Tis no place for the old"
When you first took my hand
On a cold Fermoy field
You promised me Glory was waiting for me

You were fearsome
You were tricky
King of Cork's hurling City
When the boys finished playing
They were thrown out the door
Sean Og came out swinging
All the comments were stinging
But Ger fought his corner
And said training's alright
The boys of the Cork County Board choir
Were singing "Play Away"
And the bells were ringing out Down Noreside way

We are done
We are sunk
Our hurling future is junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
Start talking and sort it
Don't let the Cats lord it
Get off your high horses And find peace now that lasts

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I disowned you
I placed them in new lads
Whose hearts and minds I own
Go training all alone
I've built my dreams around youth

Comments: Great idea about pictures of the past, brought back good memories especially of the U14 team - I was allowed go on the bus back home with the team and it a brilliant evening, still have fond memories of it 18 years later!
