Just heard the minors had a good win over Canovee today and are now through to a county final meeting with, either Clon or Bandon. More good news concerns the work being carried out presently by a very progressive Doheny club. In the last few years they have completed massive renovation and upgrading of their playing facilities with the second pitch now ready and almost as good as the main venue. Not content to rest on their laurels the club is presently involved in reconstructing the handball alley and when finished there will be two more dressing rooms with all mod cons as well as a fully equipped gym upstairs. Some of the work is being carried out on a voluntary basis and enough credit can not be given to all concerned. They have propelled the club facilities into the future and surely their detractors must now join in the groundswell of goodwill and give credit where credit is due. |

Sorry again, Denis Ponto did not win an All Ireland. He did win a Munster that year but got sick and lost out on the All Ireland. The D.McCarthy on that team was from Clon. Must keep the records straight. |

Denis (Ponto) McCarthy won an All-Ireland football medal as a sub in 1967 when Cork beat Laois by 5-14 to 2-3. The quality of that team was shown by the presence of players like Seamus Looney, Kevin Kehily, Dinny Long, Jimmy Barrett, Teddy 'Starry' O'Brien and Donal Hunt. Other fine players like Dave McCarthy, Clon, and Mick Scannell, Naomh Abán, were also subs on that team. That team was rated the best minor football team ever fielded by Cork. |
